Bad dialog and awful acting aside, this film does have Johnny Depp with feathered hair and a half-shirt. Mixes the slasher genre with fantasy horror. Even though this was the first one, it was still really really really gory. I enjoyed how the girl booby trapped her house all "Home Alone" style and the pulled Freddy into the real world to deal with her wacky traps. My biggest problem with this movie is that it's all about staying awake and not falling asleep since that's where Freddy's omnipotent rule dominates. With that in mind, it was difficult to fall asleep last night and when I did, I dreamed about Mr. Krueger all night.
this was one of the best out of the trilogy it had so much terror & frightening sequences. freddy krueger is one horror icon that will never be forgotten. he's a nightmare to die for, 4 1/2 stars.Flixster - Share Movies
Huuu un clasico ochentero.....las que siguieron poco a poco fueron perdiendo lo que a esta le sobraba...la originalidad...
I really liked this 1st one. Scary and very different from other horror movies..saw it cuddling with my bee, scotty gibbs
not wes craven's master peace as said but still...freddy is cool...not as jason but still fucking cool...
Probably the most influential movie of my life. I was born in 83' and saw this movie as a very young boy, and had nightmares about Freddy for years to come after that.
Freddy Krueger has grown to become my favorite movie character of all time, mostly for scaring the begeezus out of me. Wes Craven, is the true "Master of Horror".
It's not really my favorite movie but it's still bound to freak you if you watch it in the dark in surround sound.
80's slasher.....need I say more? Yes actually and he goes by the name of Freddy Kruger. Long live Robert Englund.
As serial killer Fred Krueger slashed through helpless teens in their dreams (as a way of getting revenge on their parents past sins) in the mid 80s, he became popularized as a cult horror icon, he began spawning sequels year after year. But this was (with out a dout) the best Nightmare. Wes Craven brought us probably the most original and best slasher flick since Halloween.
seeing it again after a long time i notice silly FX stuff. for an '80s horror movie on a small budget it does well. but you want to slap the kids for falling asleep. what were you thinking? it could benefit from a decent remake.
i thought this movie was a joke when i was a kid + i still do. how is a burn victim in a fedora + his mom's favorite christmas sweater scary?
Very cheesy.Its the best out of all of them.Never liked Wes Craven but Freddy Kruger is a Classic villan.
not scary me but good film if you like horror movies. The acting for the two main characters and rest were ok not that bad.
Scared the crap out of me when I first saw it. But after watching it again years later, it was so cheesy.
This is actually one of my favorite horror flicks. I'm a fan of "yesteryear's" horror - Freddy, early Jason, Pumpkinhead....and I don't know how many times I say "DON'T...FALL...ASLEEP" in one week's time, LOL
great movie...and a very young but still beautiful johnny depp...his bed eats him! how funny is that! mmm...johnny depp!
One most iconic horror movies of all time which gave us one of the most iconic villains of all time. I read somewhere years ago that Freddy Kruger was the third most recognized character out there after Micky Mouse and Superman. I'm sure thats changed by now since I read this around the time New Nightmare came out but still thats saying something all the same. A great movie that deserves all the props that it gets.
One of the most intelligent and terrifying horror films of all time!!!An actual story, made by somebody who cared enough about his ideas to make them different and original...
Halloween, Nightmare on elm street... its all the same! But this one does however, have a reealy creepy song. At least it lists the procedures of escaping freddy!
One, two, Freddy's coming for you. / Three, four, better lock your door. / Five, six, grab your crucifix. / Seven, eight, better stay awake. / Nine, ten, never sleep again.
i loved the scene where glen was killed. this is a real horror movie. robert englund really kicked butt. freddy rocks. i've got all the nightmare on elm street films
"Now I lay me down to sleep;
I pray the Lord my soul to keep;
And if I die before I wake;
I pray the Lord my soul to take"

This is what i call a real horror movie its my fav horror film awesome YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nightmare on Elm Street was the first Horror movie I ever fell in love with. Robert England really kick butt in this movie, he has done other roles in the past but this one is the one he will always be remembered by. But I do have to admit when he played " Willy " from the series " V ". That wasn't to bad as well and also there was Wishmaster. But Nightmare is far better than any of those.
