Plot: A Dogme film about an engaged couple that is torn apart after the man is paralyzed in an accident, and the woman falls in love with the husband of the woman who caused the accident.
heart-wrenching film about a newly engaged couple who are struck my tragedy when the man becomes paralyzed after is being ran down by a car. The driver of the car turns out to be the wife of a doctor who is the woman that his fiance then falls in love with. To me though, I wasn't sure that Sonja Richters character actually did fall in love with Mads Mikkelsen's character, I think she was grieving and clung to him for the interaction that she wasn't getting from her fiance. I did feel really sorry for Mads, there was a point in the movie that he came to her apartment, you could tell he was heartbroken and wanted her to love him like he loved her. Beautiful movie that shows dogme indie films can sometimes be so much better than big blockbusters which can be so unrealistic with all their overdone special effects.
a dogme 95 film, a young couples lives are damaged when the man is paralised in a road acident, through atwist of fate, the women responsible is marrried with a child to a doctor at hospital, where the injured man is taken, and through guilt the mother lets her doctor husband get close and to help the girlfriend of patient, where after awhile a bond developes, and a eventual affair, a well handled drama, with great performances all round, as its the dogma mannifesto, which means all natural settings, and various rules, its a very gritty and, grounded, a great look at relationships, from both sides, the husband and wife,, and the paralised guy and girlfriend., and everything that happens, a niced little debut from susan bier, who also made thre exellent after the wedding
Original Danish title "Elsker Dig for Evigt," which translates roughly as "I'll Love You Forever" .
The film is as emotionally raw and wrenching as life itself.
I quite loved this film, the plot felt very sinister and original, the acting was really good and what I liked about this was the immense pressure being put on the film, with so many characters inter-linked and the affairs and the problems eventually cracking apart. It was very grim and dark but in a very personal way, you don't feel it to be a narrative or even having a plot at all.
Watching this, it realy displays the fragility of a couple and of relationships in general, how everyday incidents change and how those changes are irrreversible. This film impacted me heavily when I first saw this and seeing it again, I feel a little more swayed and at the same time, more emphathatic to each character.
Bare, raw emotions and realistic. Great acting all round and up close camera work. The dialogue is pitch-perfect.
To push away someone from you out of love for them must be the hardest thing to do. To never be able to hold them in your arms again the most horrible. I thought it represented the cause and effect of adultery on both parts even better than Faithless which was a bit overracted and overdramatic where this one is perfectly acted and ended. Sometimes there is just nobody to blame and nothing to understand out of life.
with mads and nikolaj in the film, it was decent. if any other actors did it, it would collapse due to odd dialogue and plotline. They are very good actors, i suggest watching green butchers to see a better performance from these two.
I've always been quite fond of the dogme movement and Danish cinema. They have a strong sense of drama and of course the unique style associated with dogme. In this case the films dramatic tension and character relations work to make a quality film.
Very heartwrenching and upsetting... This film is shot in a way that makes this movie experience feel very real and raw.
Another great movie by Susanne Bier!
