Plot: Based on the Dennis Lehane novel about two Boston area detectives investigating a little girl's kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personally.
I did not enjoy this movie,it left me feeling flat but it was a good movie and a great deal darker than i had expected. Great plot/twists but he(the PI)made the wrong choice.
Ben Affleck has redeemed himself to hollywood with this taunting and emotional kid-nap thriller - as his directorial debut he has presented a movie that rolls together the emotions and hits you with them, the acting is sensational and the story engaging and heartbreaking.
This is one very impressive movie with a story that envelops you. Great performances from the cast - Casey Affleck is fast becoming one of my fave actors. The plot twists & turns enough to keep the suspense & the ending leaves you thinking 'did he make the right choice?'.
Ben Affleck should stick to directing - I think this movie outshines any of the movies he starred in!
Excellently acted by all involved, Casey Affleck was just outstanding as the young, naive PI trying to find the missing girl - and ultimatly being placed the the hardest moral dilemma you can imagine. Amy Madigan also did an outstanidng job as the rather selfish and self centred mother of the missing girl, capturing the balance between the love she had for her daughter, but the selfish nature that stopped her from really being a mother to her.
The moral dilemma is still playing on my mind, it really forces you to question what you would do in that situation, what is really morally right to do in that situation, and even what you emotionally would think of as right. I still don't know where I would stand if I was placed in the same position.
Overall it was excellently directed, acted, filmed and told. The film not only presents you with this tragic story, yet challanges you with it as well and on some level I think you end up feeling for every character - from the selfish mother, the naive PI, to the dodgy detectives. You can see where each character is coming from, but whether that means the way they act and the decisions they make are correct is another matter, you may see what drives them to make the choices they do but you might not agree with the the end result.
i didnt want to see this movie at first but after i saw it i was like wow fucking amazing casey affleck should of got a oscer nod for it just fucking great and a story of a girl knapping wich happens maybe half the times after she is found...
This movie disturbed me for various reasons which shows what excellent storytelling it was. What's "morally" right isn't always what's right.Excellent writing, acting and directing. As far as I'm concerned it had a tragic ending though.I'm truly pissed at the ending not for anything else but the fact I think it was wrong.
Good acting, solid direction by Affleck but I figured out the "twist" halfway through that and the lead character's screwed up decision made this movie an iffy one to rate. Overall it's a solid C+ from me.
Such a great and surprising film. It is surprising because Ben Affleck directed it and had a huge part in other parts of the production.
Ben Affleck is an ok actor but he has had moments of awfulness, director wise he is brilliant. He uses scenery well and he develops his characters stoies well and although it is a dark subject to cover he does it well with suspenseful build ups and some intense dialogue between his characters.
Casey Affleck has become such an accomplished actor in recent years and this is definately his standout perfomance. Casey and Michelle Monaghan work well together as the leads. With a great supporting which include such names as Freeman and Harris.
This film gets more distubing as it goes along and it has an ending that fits. The ending will leave you with a lot of questions but not because there are plot holes which there aren't, I guess it will just leave you saying 'Why'.
I know, I know...Oscar worthy yada yada. Maybe I just don't like Lehane because I didn't like Mystic River either. Too much cursing and I couldn't understand Casey Affleck the majority of the time.
A fine piece of direction from Ben Affleck, this gritty and haunting abduction drama can clearly spark a certain amount of moral debate from the issues it raises. Strong performance from Casey Affleck, with understated intensity once again, and excellent support from Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris. Amy Ryan deserves a special mention for her performance as the abducted girl's junkie mother, in one of my personal favourite films of the last year. The older Affleck brother is proving to be better behind the camera than in front of it,while his younger brother Casey is increasingly building a reputation as a man to watch
Casey Affleck is fast becoming one of my favourite actors. He gives a great performance here, leading a star-studded cast with the other standout being Oscar-nominated Amy Ryan (who should've won). Ben Affleck should stick to directing - he does a great job with this emotional and dark film.
very mystic river / good will hunting. the whole boston, white, lower class subject matter is becoming popular (departed)... and rightly so. i think NYC and LA are played out... im just waitin for huntsville, MO to get its shine.
solid performance from casey who again impressed me after his robert ford role.
story did get a bit tricky at times, but anyone who just kept patience came good.
... dare say, i think i liked the way affleck shot the whole thing and kept in the out of focus part when harris tells the law of the world. (I WILL LAY YOU DOWN!)
hey keith... MAKE ME A FUCKING MARTINI!!!
Liked the pace of the film (slow enough to create suspense) and thought the performances were pretty good too. Would have liked to have more of an insight into some of the characters but suspect they lay on the editing room floor. Watch the alternative ending on DVD - confirms what you thought he was thinking anyway. Good movie. Worth a watch.
While not the most uplifting movie I have ever seen, it definately will make you think and have discussion over the decisions made by the main characters. A great first effort for director Ben Affleck,
awsome!! Ben Affleck's debut directing was very impressive. Also Casey affleck and Freeman are such great actors in the film.
Ben Affleck's directorial debut in this drama movie is impressive - in short, it's outstanding! Casey Affleck is not the average tough guy, and yet his hidden weapon - he's not the innocent his baby face suggest - means that when he uses a sharp tongue or a clenched fist it feels real. Michelle Monaghan as his P.I. and romantic partner is olid in an unglamorous role, while Ed Harris offers real menace as a cop operating on the fringes of the force.
~Gone Baby Gone~ is such an interesting film, In fact i loved it from start to end, included is excellent twists that you wouldnt guess~however the ending is a bit sad, great cast* would recommend*
I have no idea how this poor excuse for a movie made it to the big screen. I can only assume that the Affleck name got it through pre-production and that Freeman was doing this as a charitable donation to get the Affleck family a meal this year. Casey Affleck was completely unbelievable [not in the awesome fashion] in his role. The story was completely bogus [trying to steel some of the ingenuity found in Man On Fire] and the credibility of all of the characters disappeared as soon as Amy Madigan left the screen. I want my money back!!! Do not see how this film got rave reviews.
I've always liked Ben Affleck, something that has gotten me a lot of shit in my days.
So to all the nah sayers...
You we're wrong, he's got talent. Go fuck yourself.
= )
,,patrick kenzie: when i was young, i asked my priest how you could get to heaven and still protect yourself from all the evil in the world. he told me what God said to His children: ,,you are sheep among wolves. be wise as serpents, yet innocent as doves."
gone baby gone... another fucking disappointment! the story is about two boston detectives investigating a little girl' s kidnapping. the two detectives are casey ,,fucking" affleck (i didn' t understand a word from him) and one of the ugliest actress that i have ever seen, michelle monaghan. she is so fucking ugly, i can' t even watch her acting! the ending twist is fucked up, so overall, the story is awful. the script too! the cast is terrible, morgan freeman has a small role, but his acting was brilliant (the only one who can act well in this movie). amy madigan was a fucking bitch (her character is a bitch, but in reality she was just a bitch)! the others just suck! so, the cast is fucked up too! the characters are boring. the soundtrack is shit! the cinematography sucks! the whole movie is crap, except the brilliant performance of mr. freeman. the movie is gone, baby! simply motherfucking gone!Flixster - Share Movies
script was a real disappointment even though, final scene was surprising. and acting skills of main characters didnt pleased (except M Freeman, of course Mr. Freeman demonstrated a good job ) :( finally, i regret watching it; loss of time !
This would have received 4 stars (maybe more) if it were not for the ending...Basically if it were not for when we finally realize what the whole film had been building towards. i won't tell you the ending (mostly because that's a dumb thing to do). However what I will say is that the heart of the story, the heart of the drama and suspense...turns out to be pretty weak. A bit "lame" if you will.
Ending aside, I DID like where this movie was going. Though some scenes were tough (dealing with kidnapped children)
the cinematography and gritty feel of the film was great. The acting (though nothing amazing) wasn't bad. (Casey still has a 14 year olds voice.)
Now the good part: Ben Affleck. Ben Affleck is one of my pet peeves. Now don't get me wrong, I don't mean he's on my pet peeve actor list. What I mean is that he's on my pet peeve actor list AND on my general pet peeve list for everyday people, things, happenings and so forth. Not a fan. So I watched this knowing he wrote and directed it...annnnnnd put his brother in the lead role...(not to say that he would ever do that in order to make money off of Casey's new career since his own has suffered as of late....of course). Anyhow, I come to the conclusion that besides the plot ending which an 5th grader could have come up with...he did't fail.
i loved this flick so much ill take back everything bad i said about ben affleck. this man was born to direct

If anyone knew was the word ADAPTATION meant they wouldnt complain about leads being wrong opr stuff being changed from the book. Most of the time the movie is trying to get away from the book so its normal to have what seems like a wrong casting and some changes.
if anyone has read any of the patrick and angie books the would realize how wrong the leads are for their parts...other then that it was a fine enjoyable movie
